The Benefits of Salmon Oil

Salmon oil is well known as a popular health supplement for pets. Suitable for dogs, cats, horses and ferrets, the rich fatty acids found in salmon oil have been shown to support a number of different benefits.

So why should you look to add Salmon oil to your pets' diet?

Skin

Salmon oil is a natural source of long-chain fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) which are proven to improve the coat and skin, giving pets a soft, strong and shiny coat. Some studies have even found that omega fatty acids in salmon and fish oils helped to treat pruritic (itchy) skin disease and rashes that are often associated with seasonal allergies. Dogs that received regular dietary supplementation with EPA and DHA had better coat quality and less itching than those in placebo groups.

Brain

Omega-3 helps to repair and maintain brain cells. Supplementing this into your pets daily diet can not only support healthy brain development in young puppies, kittens and foals but also help to reduce the risk of cognitive decline with human studies even proving a link between omega 3 and the prevention of conditions such as Alzheimers disease.

Heart

The anti-inflammatory benefits of salmon oil can also help support healthy heart function with some studies showing that omega-3 fatty acids can also have anti-arrhythmic properties that can help aid conditions where there is an irregular heartbeat. Omega-3d also help to lower triglyceride levels, a type of fat in the blood that increases the risk factor of heart disease and stroke.

As if all this wasnt enough there are further studies that would suggest that salmon oil can also provide benefits to vision and immune system! This wonder oil is packed full of benefits and on top of that is also a delicious addition to your pet's food!

Joints

We previously featured salmon oil in our blog “3 Products To Help Improve Your Pets Joints” where we looked at how Omega-3 acids are an important component of healthy cell membranes and help to reduce inflammation which causes pain and discomfort in joints. In our blog “Customer Story: Harvey's Journey To Better Health” Harvey's owner shared how salmon oil had helped senior Labrador Harvey get a new lease on life.

I must say I’ve been using a drop of this everyday in my dogs eve meal. She’s 2 now and I started it when she was 10 weeks old and I don’t know if it’s coincidence or the oil (I’m pretty sure it’s got to be the oil) but the amount of people that stop and comment on how shiny and soft my dogs coat is. She’s a black cockapoo . I would highly recommend this product and I myself will continue to use it. The bottle goes a very long way you only need a little squirt.
